A Blue Chip multinational responsible for supporting a large workforce of maintenance and support engineers and ensuring that the parts they require are shipped in the most efficient way. They wished to analyse distances from stock location sites to the historical records of actual customer calls so as to establish the impact of providing additional stock locations and/or alternative distribution strategies. ORION delivered a solution based on a subset of the Orion StarLog system. The user provides two files prepared using a spreadsheet, one containing a list of postcodes for each warehouse location, the second a list of postcodes for each job. The files are loaded via a simple to use web page, and the system calculates for each job, the nearest storage location, and then produces a summary showing the number of jobs allocated to each location and the average and maximum distances. |
